Resumen: Patronato's member farmers use voluntary fixed quotas to fund research at CIANO (Agricultural Research Center of the Northwest) focused specifically on Sonora. Mexico's particular production problems. Results have been spectacular: the Yaqui Valley produces 20% of Mexico's wheat on 1% of the country's cultivated land. The system has spurred the development of 12 other patronatos in Mexico, and could be implemented in other developing countries. Document covers Patronato's origins, organizational structure, operations, financing and the system as a model and agroclimactic data.
